It is natural to have ear wax situated inside the ear canal, Earwax plays a vital part in keeping our ear canals lubricated also preventing dust and bacteria from entering. In most cases ear wax will leave the ear naturally, sometimes the earwax can get trapped in the ear canal which may lead to:
•Pain or Discomfort
•Hearing loss or dizziness.
• Itchiness in the ear canal.
• Pressure or a feeling of fulness inside the ear.
• Mild Ringing in the ear (Tinnitus)
These symptoms should not be ignored, and you should not attempt to remove ear wax yourself by pushing anything into your ear. The lining of the ear canal is extremely delicate and it is very easy to damage. You should seek the advice of Registered Hearing Care Professional or your GP.
What Can I Expect During The Appointment?
Our Ear Wax removal clinicians are fully trained in ear wax removal and follow the BSHAA (British Society of Hearing Aid Audiology) practice guidance.
The initial consultation for ear wax removal will involve a visual assessment of both ears using the latest video otoscope technology (A small camera that we will put into the ear). The patient will be able to view the ear wax inside the ear canal. Any ear wax present would then be removed using Microsuction which is a gentle suction probe inserted into the ear under a microscope to gentle remove the ear wax the procedure to remove the ear wax is painless and normally takes around 20 minutes.
On rare occasions it may be necessary to also use a warm water irrigation treatment to complete the procedure. In most cases the ear wax will be removed fully and no follow ups necessary. If a follow up procedure is needed there is no additional charge for this.
Please note: Ear wax removal treatment for people over the age of 18 only.
How much will it cost?
The charge for ear wax removal consultation and full procedure is £55 for one ear and £80 for both ears.
If no wax is present or the procedure is not deemed necessary, there is a £25 consultation charge.
We recommend using olive oil for 3-4 days prior to treatment.
